TOUR LOCATION
Our Newcastle Food & Street Art Tour takes place in Newcastle East, the city’s historic and cultural heart. This vibrant harbourside precinct is where Newcastle’s past and present meet, blending heritage architecture, waterfront views, laneways, public art and some of the city’s most loved food spots. Newcastle East is known for its walkability and atmosphere. Within a compact area, you’ll find heritage-listed buildings, contemporary street art, independent eateries, boutique bars and coastal views stretching across the harbour and ocean. It’s a neighbourhood locals love to spend time in and visitors often miss without a guide. The area has become a hub for Newcastle’s creative scene, with large-scale murals, sculptures and installations woven into everyday streets. Art here isn’t confined to galleries, it lives on walls, laneways and public spaces, telling stories of the city’s people, history and evolving identity. Food is just as central to the East End’s character. Surrounded by regional producers and inspired by global flavours, the precinct is home to small-batch makers, local institutions and venues that reflect Newcastle’s growing reputation as a food destination. Starting from the Newcastle Visitor Information Centre, this walking tour explores the East End at a relaxed pace, covering approximately 2.5 kilometres on mostly flat ground. Along the way, you’ll discover why Newcastle East is considered the cultural and culinary gateway to the city, and why it’s quickly becoming a must-visit destination for travellers looking for something authentic, local and creative.
