How long is the Country NSW day tour?
About 8 hours. We pick up from Newcastle at 8:30am and return around 5:30pm.

Where exactly does the tour go?
The tour visits Morpeth (a heritage township founded in 1821), a third-generation family cattle farm on the Allyn River for a guided farm tour and swim, and Tinshed Brewery in the historic town of Dungog on the way back to Newcastle.

Is lunch included?
Yes. Unlike our other day tours, lunch IS included. We prepare a fresh Aussie BBQ on the farm with locally sourced ingredients, eaten outdoors with country views. Vegetarian options are available on request.

Can we swim in the Allyn River?
Yes. The farm we visit has direct access to the Allyn River. There’s time to swim in the natural swimming hole (water levels and weather permitting). Pack swimmers and a towel.

Are children welcome on this tour?
Yes. Children aged 7 and over are welcome. The farm tour, river swim and BBQ lunch make this one of our most family-friendly day tours, and there’s no wine tasting component.

What should I bring or wear?
Casual, comfortable clothing. Hiking shoes for the farm walk, hat, sunscreen, a light jacket for cooler conditions, swimmers and a towel for the Allyn River. Insect repellent is useful in warmer months.

We pick up from your Newcastle address (hotel, Airbnb or private residence) across Newcastle East, Newcastle West, Merewether and nearby suburbs. Tell us your address when booking and we’ll confirm.

How is this different to the Hunter Valley Wine Tour?
This is our family-friendly heritage and farm experience, with lunch included and no wine tastings. It’s open to children aged 7 and over and visits country towns, a working farm, the Allyn River and a craft brewery. The Hunter Valley Wine Tour is an 18+ wine-focused day with cellar door tastings.

Morpeth
Morpeth is our first stop after departing Newcastle, founded as a quaint township in 1821. We will pause here for a 45-minute rest break to explore its charming streets lined with boutiques selling fashion, home decor, jewelry, artisanal foods, and local art. Browse for rare finds and local treasures at Morpeth Antique Centre inside the historic Campbell's Store, or admire the latest works at Morpeth Gallery. As the birthplace of Arnott's biscuits, Morpeth is home to the original 1850s bakehouse owned by the Arnott family. Enjoy a coffee, stroll the historic main street, admire the riverside garden, or shop at the boutiques and vintage stores before we continue on our journey.

Cattle Farm & Allyn River
Now it’s time to see what an Aussie farm is all about. We will take a tour of a family run Farm! This sustainably operated farm gets you a behind the scenes looking into Australian farming. After a guided tour of the farm with a certified farmer, where you'll get up close with cattle and take in the scenic NSW countryside, enjoy a classic Australian lunch - a sausage sizzle featuring the farm's highest quality, farm-to-table beef. You will also get the opportunity to swim in the farms river which is part of the famous Allyn River.

Tinshed Craft Brewery
On our journey back to Newcastle, we will make a stop in the charming historic town of Dungog to visit Tinshed Brewery, a locally owned craft brewery where all the beers are brewed onsite using Australian and European ingredients. Nestled in dairy and timber country and surrounded by rolling hills and the Williams River, this small country town of just over 2,000 residents features the James Theatre, Australia's oldest operating cinema housed in a beautiful Spanish-style building.
