How the non-alcoholic option works
When you book either of our public group wine tours, the Hunter Valley Wine Tour with Newcastle pickup or the Boutique Hunter Valley Wine Tour with local pickup from Pokolbin & Cessnock, simply tick the “Non-Alcoholic Wine Tour Option” at checkout for each guest who’d like it. No extra cost, no sitting at the end of the table with a lemonade.
You’ll enjoy the same relaxed day, the same seated tastings and the same food pairings as the rest of your group, with premium non-alcoholic wines poured instead. The itinerary is largely the same for everyone. At the occasional stop, we may pop our non-alcoholic guests over to a nearby cellar door for their tasting before rejoining the group, a little detour that means everyone gets a pour worth writing home about.
What non-alcoholic wines will you taste?
The Hunter Valley happens to be home turf for some of Australia’s best non-alcoholic wine.
McGuigan Zero. The McGuigan family story started right here in the Hunter Valley, and their Zero range is now one of the country’s most awarded non-alcoholic labels. Everything in the bottle is derived from wine grapes: no artificial sweeteners, no shortcuts.
Tamburlaine “Jack Squat”. Pokolbin’s own Tamburlaine Organic Wines makes its cheekily named Jack Squat range by gently removing the alcohol from its most loved organic wines, keeping the natural aromas and character intact.
In other words: real wine, made by real Hunter winemakers, with the alcohol taken out. Not grape juice in a fancy bottle.
Is non-alcoholic wine completely alcohol-free?
Not quite, and we want to be upfront about it. “Non-alcoholic” wines are dealcoholised, which means a trace of residual alcohol can remain: up to 0.5% ABV, similar to the levels found naturally in some fruit juices and kombucha. For context, McGuigan notes you’d need to drink more than three bottles of Zero to consume a single standard drink.
Still, if you avoid alcohol entirely for medical, pregnancy or faith reasons, please factor that in when deciding whether the option is right for you. And our wine tours remain 18+ across the board, as all guests visit working cellar doors.
