04 Aug The Perfect Multi-Day Tour from Sydney: Hunter Valley, Newcastle & Port Stephens in 3 Private Days
Most visitors to Australia see Sydney, tick off the Opera House and Bondi, and fly on to the reef or the red centre. Very few discover what locals have known forever: some of New South Wales’ best food, wine and coastline sits just a couple of hours north of the Harbour Bridge. If you’ve been searching for a multi day tour from Sydney that gets you beyond the city without renting a car, this one was built for you.
Our new Sydney to the Hunter Region: 3 Day Private Tour links three of our favourite experiences, Hawkesbury River oysters, Newcastle’s food and street art, Hunter Valley wine country and the dolphins of Port Stephens, into one unhurried private journey with your own local guide and Mercedes-Benz from start to finish.

Why the Hunter Region Is Australia’s Best-Kept Secret
Newcastle is an easygoing beach city with serious food credentials, ocean baths and a booming street art scene. One hour inland, the Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest wine region, famous for Semillon and Shiraz poured at cellar doors that range from grand international names to family-run vineyards. And one hour from Newcastle, Port Stephens brings sweeping headlands, powder-white beaches and a resident pod of around 100 bottlenose dolphins. Three world-class experiences, all within an hour of each other, and almost no international itineraries include them. That’s exactly why we built a 3 day private tour from Sydney around them.
The 3 Day Itinerary at a Glance
Day 1: Sydney to Newcastle, Oysters and Street Art
We collect you from your Sydney hotel from 9:00am, door to door. On the drive north we stop on the banks of the Hawkesbury River for a hands-on oyster experience: learn to shuck with the farmers themselves, see behind the scenes, and take away a goodie bag with a fresh dozen. After check-in at your Newcastle hotel, your guide leads a private three-hour food and street art walk through Newcastle’s East End with five curated tastings among the murals.

Day 2: Hunter Valley Wine Country
A full day among hand-selected vineyards: three premium sit-down tastings, a vodka, gin and liqueur tasting, a paired cheese or chocolate tasting, and a leisurely a la carte vineyard lunch, included. Tell us your favourite wines before you travel and we’ll shape the day around them. If you’ve ever wanted a private Hunter Valley wine tour without the crowds of a big bus, this is it.

Day 3: Port Stephens, Dolphins and a Seafood Picnic
A guided walk up Tomaree Mountain for one of the best coastal views in Australia (there’s a flat option too), a 1.5-hour dolphin cruise, a freshly caught seafood picnic on the beach, an optional swim, and a craft brewery beer and honey tasting to finish. The tour wraps up back in Newcastle in the early evening. It’s everything people love about our Port Stephens day tour, rounded off with an easy drive back to your Newcastle base.

Built for International Visitors (Especially Our American Friends)
If you’re visiting from the United States or anywhere overseas, a multi day tour from Sydney solves a lot of little problems at once:
- No rental car, no wrong side of the road. Australians drive on the left; on this tour your professionally trained local guide does all the driving in a comfortable eight-seat Mercedes-Benz with leather seats and sunroofs.
- Door-to-door from your Sydney hotel. No train timetables, no meeting points. Pickup is from 9:00am on day one, and your luggage simply travels with you.
- Unpack once. Both nights are spent in Newcastle. Accommodation is not included, so you choose the style and budget that suit you, and we’re glad to recommend Newcastle’s newest 5-star and 4-star hotels.
- Fully private, shaped around you. One group per departure. Dietary requirements, wine preferences and walking pace are all adjusted to your group.
- A guide who actually lives here. Born and raised in the region, passionate about it, and full of the stories a guidebook can’t give you.
Getting There and Getting Home
The tour begins at your Sydney hotel on a Thursday or Friday morning and ends in Newcastle in the early evening on day three. Prefer to loop back? Private transportation to Sydney after the tour is something we can arrange for you.
What It Costs and How to Book
The tour is $5,910 AUD in total for a private group of two, which is $2,955 per person, with every experience, tasting and lunch on the itinerary included. Travelling with a different group size?
